First Impression
"When we first got here the first thing we saw was the cosy house with green spaces and the lake in front. It looked like a painting from a museum about England. When I first saw everyone they welcomed us very well, they were very kind but I was really tired! After resting we all got to know each other better, there were no need for ice breakers - we seemed to just naturally get along, it was lovely." (Aya) We talked about accents, the programme, games, what cities we were from, colleges, general life talk and more.
Aya (Tulkarm): I imagined English people as work-obsessed without being able to make emotional connections, but when I came here everyone was very kind, taking care of one another and nursing me when I was sick! This was very lovely and generous.
Hazim (Hebron): I thought that all English people were going to be pompous like in the movies, and I was also worried about racism, however after coming here I found that this was a lie, I feel like everyone here is my family. Also everyone here is obsessed with posing for photos!
Harres (London): I was very nervous to meet the Palestinian students and was worried we would not be able to communicate. Truthfully it was amazing - the students were so open, in touch with their feelings and warm. I have learnt a lot and honestly feel like we've known each other for weeks rather than days!
James (Italy): I actually didn't know what to expect before coming to Pendle. However, as soon as we arrive and we got to met each other I felt amazingly overwhelmed by all those students sharing their experiences and emotions. I got to realise how lucky I am!
